Why You Should Clean your Lint Trap

Not all dryers are made alike. Sometimes your lint trap is hidden from sight, and you may need a reminder to clean it after each drying cycle. As you probably know, it’s really easy to remove the lint, but if you don’t remember to do this, it can affect your dryer and actually impact your energy bill.

Why is it important to clean out the lint trap?

There are three main ways that letting lint remain on your trap can affect you and your dryer. For one thing, the lint causes your dryer’s motor to work harder. This occurs because lint blocks the air circulation so that the motor cannot cool efficiently. As a result, the motor must run longer and harder, like an overheated car engine.

Secondly, since the motor is working slower, it takes longer to dry your clothes. For most people, shaving a few minutes off the drying cycle can mean more time to devote to something else, especially if you have to dry several loads a day. Finally, since the dryer must run longer, you are using up more energy. This translates into a more expensive electric or gas bill. Imagine erasing charges from your bill as you clear out that lint.

Know you know the reason to remove lint.

Keeping in mind that not cleaning your lint trap can cost you money can make it easier to remember to remove the lint. You might consider placing a sticky note reminding you to clean it out. Once you remember to always clean your lint trip, you’ll love how efficiently your dryer works, how fast you can get your laundry done, and the fact that you are using energy more efficiently.
