Five ways to fight spring allergies around the home

General

People who have spring allergies can attest to all the problems that they experience, including sneezing, coughing and blowing their noses. Since spring allergies simulate all of the symptoms of a horrible cold, most people avoid allergy suffers like the plague. However, all allergy sufferers want is a little relief from their burning eyes, running noses and irritated dry throats. Thankfully, there are some things that can provide the relief they need, especially during seasons when they suffer the most. Listed below are five ways to fight and prevent allergies around the home.

Frequent Vacuuming

Frequent vacuuming is a must for those who don’t want their families to suffer with spring allergies and conditions like asthma. Because there are common triggers that cause allergy sufferers to sneeze uncontrollably, there are numerous ways to reduce and eliminate these problems. With frequent vacuuming, homeowners and their family members can vacuum areas where dust and dust mites are known to accumulate.

Wash Household Items that Hold Dust Mites

Dust mites can be found in many different items and areas in the home. Unfortunately, they are normally found in pillows, bedding, rugs and other soft materials that they can survive in. To get rid of dust mites and keep these items clean, these items should be washed in extremely hot water at least once a week. Getting rid of the dust mites completely will also involve placing these items in the dryer so the mites will die out.

Replace Chemical Cleaning Products with Green Products

Another key to ensuring allergy suffers get the relief they need is replacing traditional chemically-based cleaning products with green products. Most household cleaners contain a variety of different harsh chemicals, which can trigger allergies. Switching to green products is a great choice for those who want to help their families to breathe better, and helps with save money on costly household products.

Shut Pollen Out

When spring arrives, pollen normally comes with it. Though the season is a great time to be outdoors for both work and play, it’s often the worst time for allergy sufferers. In fact, stepping outside when pollen levels are high can be an immediate trigger for those who are sensitive to it. Because pollen can easily flow to inside the home, it is important to keep doors and windows closed in order to shut pollen out. In fact, homeowners should always make a habit of closing windows and doors, especially at night when pollen levels greatly increase.

Use Humidifiers

Another great way to deal with allergies is using by humidifiers at home. Humidifiers are designed to keep air moist so animal dander and pollen don’t have a dry place to collect.

Sneezing and coughing can make anyone miserable, especially during the spring season. Fortunately, there are many different things that can be done to eliminate causes and triggers of spring allergies. Washing, vacuuming, shutting windows and doors and using humidifiers and green products are some basic keys to preventing and fighting spring allergies.
