Six tips to increase laundry efficiency

Appliances, General, Washers & Dryers

A lot of people simply hate doing laundry. They hate sorting the dirty clothes, taking the clothes out of the machine, drying them, ironing them and finally, folding them. All these loads can take loads of time and resources. Modern technologies and innovations have greatly improved the entire process, however, there are still things you can do to increase your laundry efficiency.

So, here are five tips to make the modern laundry day easier and faster:

1. Don’t over-dry
Fabrics don’t last as long if they’re too dry. If a homemaker uses an automatic dryer, putting it on the auto setting will enable the machine to detect the temperature and the humidity. The clothing should be removed right away when the dryer cycles off.

2. Use detergent sparingly
Nowadays, a surprisingly small amount of detergent can get fabrics clean. An overdose of detergent can be hard to rinse out and can attract dirt when the clothes are dry, and too much chlorine bleach can actually eat away the fibers.

3. Use cold water
Today’s detergents can work perfectly well in cold water. Even if the wash water needs to be hot, as it needs to be to get rid of dust mites in bed linens, the rinse cycle should use cold water if at all possible.

4. Wash full loads
It might be tempting to wash clothes the moment they get dirty, but it’s easier on the washing machine, the environment and the septic system to do a full load. Full loads also reduce energy bills.

5. Put clothes away promptly
Make sure to remove your clothing right after the dryer goes off, then fold and put it away. This prevents wrinkles, sometimes to the point where the clothes don’t even need to be ironed.

6. Don’t let it be for not
A dirty washer and dryer can actually undermine all the time and effort you’ve spent ensuring your family has clean clothes. Be sure to schedule out routine cleanings of your washer to prevent mold and mildew from growing. Cleaning out your dryer vent can prevent fires and help it run more efficiently (ie–less time waiting for your load to FINALLY be done.)
