How to keep your mattress fresh

General

Nearly everyone knows that you’re likely to spend as much as a third of your life in bed, if not more. When you think about it, that’s a huge time investment in a very small space! This fact alone is a very good reason to keep your bed smelling and feeling as fresh as possible. We all know to wash our sheets and our pillowcases, but what about the mattress? Are you staying on top of cleaning your comfy, cozy pillow topped bedfellow? Let’s take a look and see how you can keep your mattress fresh and clean.

Vacuum the mattress
The thing about mattresses is that even when you are just sleeping on them, they’re still acquiring dust. Just because you don’t track mud on it doesn’t mean that it’s clean! When you remove your sheets and your blankets for the laundry, take a moment to consider running your vacuum cleaner over the top of the mattress. Use your crevice tool to get into all the corners and enjoy a dust-free mattress afterwards.

Dryer sheet cheat
Dryer sheets aren’t just for the laundry room anymore! Swipe a few from the box and stick them between the mattress and the sheets. This gives you a lovely scented mattress to sleep on and really eliminate the stale smell that so many mattresses acquire after a while.

Baking soda clean
It’s been an especially long winter, so you’ll want to have a fresh, clean mattress once the warm spring air comes in. To get a really great fresh scent as you drift off to dreamland, simply add four or five drops of your favorite essential oil, home scent or perfume to a cup of baking soda. Stir the contents so that the essential oil is well-distributed, and then sprinkle it over your mattress. After letting the baking soda sit for half an hour, vacuum it up. This imbues your mattress with a lovely subtle scent that is not too overpowering.

Fresh air
When it comes to removing odors and giving your mattress a wonderfully fresh smell, consider taking the mattress and put it outside. Hoisting the mattress out so that it lies in the sunlight is a good way to get rid of odor, and it also gives your mattress the scent of fresh air. This is a great thing to do as soon as it gets warm outside after a long cold winter.

When you are looking for ways to keep your mattress smelling fresh, consider what treatments suit your situation best. These are just a few of the tricks that you can use to keep your mattress in amazing shape.
